Limia nigrofasciata - Humpbacked limia
Limia nigrofasciata - Humpbacked limia
Also known as the black barred limia.
This species is endemic to Haiti and lake Miragoane
I got mine from a petshop in Drammen.
First I got two females and the label only said "Tiger limia" so I started researching that, and thought my fish were Tiger limia sp. but that is a separate species that has yet to be scientifically recognized. It also comes from Haiti and lake Miragoane.
I then asked the shop to order some male's and when they got their next group of fish in, they had changed the label to say "Limia nigrofasciata - Tiger limia"

One of my females dropped 15 fry, they seemed very well developed, large and allready had tiger striped bodies. Unfortunately I lost them all a few days after they dropped. I kept the parents with a pair of Dwarf gouramies and was afraid the gouramies would have a field day snacking on baby limias. I had thus moved the fry into a plastic container (same as I did when my Limia tridens dropped 75 fry a few weeks earlier), but I think the Humpbacks must be more sensitive to waterconditions as well as temperature fluctuations. I had the container on top of a fishtank where the water temperature might have risen too high when the sun shone through the window.
This limia species seems to carry their fry for a long time, but drop very well developed fry.
I now keep the limias with some smaller livebearers - they share a tank with my M.parae and hopefully the next batches of fry will survive and thrive in that tank along with their parents.
